Ethical footwear fabric

I am a footwear and accessories student looking for ethical fabrics for my final year collection starting in September. I was wondering if anyones knows where I could begin to source fabrics from and what to look for as I am fairly new to this. Also as I am vegan I dont want to use any leathers or animal by-products in my colection. Any ideas or starting points would be appreciated.
