Event Description

Rich Mix continues Snapshots - a bite-sized festival in 13 parts celebrating East London in its Olympic year – with its third installment, Fashion: Rag Trade / Trading Rags.

Snapshots continues in September 2011 with a very timed to coincide with London Fashion Week. Teaming up with the  The National Maritime Museum, The Ethical Fashion Forum, Swish & Pout, Vintage Cabaraoke and St Margaret’s House Settlement amongst others, the events will feature something for everyone, including live music (presented by our friends at Eat Your Own Ears), debate, film, food, exhibitions, workshops, and a special evening performance by dANTE or dIE, and will offer a “Snapshot” of the history, and the future, of the East End Garment Trade.

Along with the EFF stand The Dress Doctor will kindly be giving us 2 live demos (1-3pm) on how to up-cycle and change your wardrobe by hand.  With her snipping and pinning skills she will be showing you how to turn an old charity shop find into the latest trend for your wardrobe.

Rich Mix are also commandeering people’s crafty hands to help them make 21 metres of bunting using old scraps of fabric and old clothes in their first ever Bunting Challenge! It’s no mean feat so the more needles and thread on board the better - which is why they need your help.  Come to the Rich Mix bar anytime between 12pm – 6pm on 24th September to get involved.

This challenge is just one part of the Snapshots Festival day “Fashion: Rag Trade / Trading Rags” and the completed bunting will be proudly displayed at future Snapshots festival days to help Rich Mix brighten up the building and create that festival feeling.

NB. Plus if you have an old Hawaiian t-shirt or a rather worn pair of trousers then why not donate it to the Rich Mix cause by leaving any old clothes or scrap fabric in the clothes donation box that can be found in the reception and see them be given a new whole new lease of life.  If you would like to donate your spare fabrics, just let pippa.murray@richmix.org.uk know.
